The Enterprise Farmers Market was filled with business owners, city officials, and council members for a Main Street Alabama presentation Thursday evening.
The event was held as part of an Enterprise City Council work session and welcomed all interested parties to attend. City Tourism Director Tammy Doerer briefly took the podium to welcome audience members and introduce the guest speaker, Trisha Black, who currently works as field director for Main Street Alabama.
Black spoke about the organization itself and explained the many ways Main Street Alabama helps to improve downtown areas. The program “stresses public-private partnerships, broad community engagement, and strategies that create jobs, spark new investment, attract visitors, and spur growth” to benefit both downtown areas and, by extension, the community. Black gave examples of ways other cities in Alabama got both tourists and residents involved in downtown activities and revitalized the area with new activities and businesses. She also explained the “four-point approach” to revitalization, which includes promotion, organization, economic vitality, and design.
A question and answer session was held after the presentation to allow community members and business owners a chance to weigh in themselves.
