Talladega
In 2022, Talladega received its Main Street Alabama designation, with priorities for its downtown district including an effort to ensure the growth of its community through economic development, small business and industry, preservation of its historic character, improved partnerships and landscapes for quality of life. In other words, Talladega Main Street has been busy!
Located in northeast section of central Alabama—only about 50 miles from Birmingham—the City of Talladega has a history of excitement and hospitality. Incorporated in 1835, the city is home to one of the nation’s most comprehensive educational programs for the deaf and blind, the Talladega Superspeedway, as well as the state’s oldest private historically black liberal arts college.
It’s not hard to see Talladega Main Street’s handiwork in cultivating its historic landscapes and reinvigorating community pride. Visitors and residents can enjoy public art like the organization’s murals by artist Jeff Hallman. Or a trip to the Historic Ritz Theatre, Harvey Museum of Art, Jemison Carnegis Heritage Hall, or inspiring Hall of Heroes—just to name a few—is certainly with the trip downtown.
But no historic small town excursion is complete without some local grub! Popular local establishments like The Daily Grind, Pop the Top Soda Shop, or Tina’s Home Cookin’ are only a sampling of the delectable delights waiting for you in this Main Street community. But once you’ve enjoyed your time in town, you’ve got to have proof, right?! Take the perfect selfie at spots like Big Springs Monument or Talladega Main Street Murals.
No matter what you do, you’re sure to enjoy yourself “at every turn” while experiencing Tallladega’s downtown.
