City opens new greenway in South Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Another greenway is opening in Huntsville. The City is excited to open its newest greenway on Haysland Road. The Elgie's Walk greenway is described as a beautiful, paved, two-mile multi-use path that winds through wetlands and woodlands preserved for the public to enjoy.

Main Street awards given out by state leader

Jasper Main Street handed out several awards - including a rare statewide Leadership Award to the Walker Area Community Foundation - to local entities Tuesday at the Jasper City Council meeting, as it was forced to cancel plans for its annual awards ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mary M. Helmer, the president and state coordinator with Main Street Alabama, noted she has been going to cities to deliver the awards this year in person due to the pandemic. That has allowed her more one-on-one time to speak with recipients than there would have been at a banquet.

Downtown Eufaula lights up

According to the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce's former Director Jim Bradley, the oak trees we know and love were not in the median until 1972. The Chamber planted the first tree closest to Highway 431 and then raised funds to buy and plant the remainder of the trees in the median.
