Strand restoration project expected to begin in March

Barring any unforeseen problems, the long-awaited start of the Strand Theatre-Atmore Hardware Store renovation and restoration project is just a few weeks away. Officials of Pride of Atmore, the group spearheading the project, reported that they had hoped construction would have already commenced. However, two stumbling blocks forced postponement until next month.

What's next for Wetumpka after HGTV show?

WETUMPKA, Ala. (WSFA) - Production has largely wrapped up on HGTV's 'Home Town Takeover' show in Wetumpka. The show's hosts, Erin and Ben Napier, are gone, but not hopes of what's coming once the show airs. Wetumpka has its casino but Jenny Stubbs will tell you the city hit its own version of a jackpot last summer.

Boom Town

Atmore was still mostly a sleepy little town off Interstate 65 until just a few months ago. It is now host to an unprecedented spurt of business and industrial growth, one that has become the envy of other small cities and towns in Alabama. Dirt is being dug, moved and tamped all over the city in preparation for new buildings. Several projects will soon be coming off the drawing boards, and one is already nearing completion. "It's unbelievable," said Tucson Roberts, who was hired two years ago to recruit retail businesses and industry for the City of Atmore. "This is really a good time for us, and I'm more upbeat about Atmore than I've ever been in the two years I've been here."
