But what about helping your neighbor?! This benefit was made clear after a South Huntsville coffee shop helped local residents in a huge way after an apartment fire caused their displacement.
Athens-Limestone Farmers Market celebrates completion of renovations
Exciting things are happening for Athens area residents. An event recently celebrated the completion of more than $800,000 in renovation work to the Athens-Limestone Farmers Market. Also, the venue was officially renamed the Athens Farmers Market at Doug Gates Park in honor of Gates, who passed in 2022 and was known for his support of downtown Athens and its flagship organization, Athens Main Street.
Jasper planning to open a welcome center
The future is bright for downtown Jasper! The community's Main Street organization recently purchased a historic corner building and has already moved into the building. However, the space will also be used as a welcome center. "The only one between Birmingham and the Mississippi line," explained Jasper Main Street Executive Director Mike Putman. Future plans also include travel touchscreen kiosks, coloring books, and video walls!
REV Birmingham releases Downtown Economic Vitality Report
In order to aid people seeking residential and professional life in downtown Birmingham, REV Birmingham recently released its quarterly Economic Vitality Report with some key statistics. Not only is the employee presence growing downtown after the pandemic but major vacant office buildings have been purchased by well-known businesses in the area, according to Jackson Dean, REV's Research and Data Manager. He continued, "We find that the owner-occupied buildings are probably more stable long-term as well." Read more about this important report at the link.
