CALERA - The weather was phenomenal and the change of venue to Calera's Courtyard and historic Main Street district was a positive for the city's Christmas Village and Craft Fair and parade that followed on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Main Street awards given out by state leader

Jasper Main Street handed out several awards - including a rare statewide Leadership Award to the Walker Area Community Foundation - to local entities Tuesday at the Jasper City Council meeting, as it was forced to cancel plans for its annual awards ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mary M. Helmer, the president and state coordinator with Main Street Alabama, noted she has been going to cities to deliver the awards this year in person due to the pandemic. That has allowed her more one-on-one time to speak with recipients than there would have been at a banquet.

Downtown Eufaula lights up

According to the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce's former Director Jim Bradley, the oak trees we know and love were not in the median until 1972. The Chamber planted the first tree closest to Highway 431 and then raised funds to buy and plant the remainder of the trees in the median.

Two Alabama Brick and Mortar Businesses Named Recipients of Main Street America Grant

Main Street America and The Hartford are pleased to announce the first-round recipients of the HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program. Grants of $5,000 - $15,000 have been awarded to 67 brick-and-mortar small businesses across the country. Funds will help these businesses respond and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic and help to revitalize and strengthen older and historic downtown commercial districts.

Downtown Opelika earns Main Street awards recognition

Opelika has received four 2020 Main Street Alabama Awards of Excellence. The awards are designed to honor projects, organizations and individuals that make a tremendous impact in their Main Street community, according to Opelika Main Street Executive Director Ken Ward.
