With its welcoming atmosphere and close-knit community vibes, it’s no surprise the “City of Valor” seems to be where Main Street charm intersects with local pride and history, including being hometown to three Medal of Honor recipients as well as NBA legend Charles Barkley.

Thanks in part to its Main Street Alabama designation in 2022, Leeds Main Street works effectively to ensure its district has an inviting, walkable layout valuing historic preservation and public spaces. As revitalization efforts gain momentums, a collective excitement continues to grow about the future of Leeds' downtown and its atmosphere of welcoming togetherness.

In fact, Leeds is home to several beloved local traditions and events that bring the community together, many hosted by Leeds Main Street, such as Pep Rally on the Parkway to kick off football season, favorite holiday tradition Mistletoe on Main, the Veteran's Day Breakfast honoring veterans and the City of Valor, and the locally-loved Farmers Market.

Important community initiatives on the horizon are the Alley Activation Project, public sculptures to beautify the district, a small business incubator, as well as important quality of life projects like co-working spaces, public restrooms, and district-wide wifi and music. These efforts will make its district even more dynamic and accessible, further enhancing the downtown experience.

But ask Leeds Main Street Executive Director Kristy Biddle what makes visiting Leeds a special small town experience, and she has an expansive, exciting list ready and waiting: authentic small town charm, safe and relaxing environment, unique events and public spaces, rich history, and access to rich culture and incredible art.
