LaFayette
LaFayette Main Street promotes and serves LaFayette’s iconic downtown by honoring its unique history, strengthening its economic vitality, and cultivating growth. So it’s no surprise one of the town’s best selfie spots is found at the Chamber County Courthouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, along with another remarkable 45 locations in the town.
As a community, LaFayette seems committed to revitalizing its historic downtown district, and this optimism and civic pride is reflected in its spaces.
After receiving Main Street Alabama designation in 2022, the local Main Street organization rolled up its sleeves and got to work! Recently, LaFayette Main Street partnered with downtown property and business owners to rehabilitate facades, creating momentum towards further goals of private investment and other developments in the historic district.
Centered around design guidelines of both the LaFayette Historic Committee and Main Street Alabama, facade improvement grants have successfully drawn more people to the district and fostered a more vibrant and sustainable small business economy.
In fact, businesses like Krave Korner, Gimme Some Coffee & Sugar, Lowes Boutique, and LaFayette Nutrition are local favorites. For recreational and cultural experiences, the town’s Joe Lewis Statue, Portraits of Honor, and Ag Park Walking Trail are for the pleasure of residents and visitors alike!
But if you want to feel the nuance of true Southern, small-town charm, the community shows it at the annual Love LaFayette Event, not to mention the Sheriff’s Rodeo and Friday Night Lights—just to name a few.
Ask DeAnna Hand, executive director of Main Street LaFayette, and she explains it perfectly. “The spark is here, and LaFayette is open for business!”
