The City of Montevallo is teaming up with Main Street Alabama, a statewide organization, to publicize what it has to offer.

Main Street Alabama is a non-profit organization which tries to help cities develop plans to bring people and jobs to historic downtown areas.

"Main Street is able to help us to identify our strengths, our assets and help us promote ourselves in a way we have not been able to promote ourselves in the past," Montevallo Mayor Hollie Cost said.

The City of Montevallo and city businesses will spend up to $60,000 to study and develop a plan to decide what is best for the city.

"Our arts, education and recreation are our biggest assets that is unique to any surrounding area," Sarah Hogan, incoming Executive Director of Main Street Montveallo, said.

One of the city's biggest assets is the University of Montevallo.

"What we are going to be able to do through Main Street is specifically identify what business would be the best fit for us," Cost said.

Montevallo plans a kickoff event next week.

The project might take a few years, but in the long run they believe it might be a huge development for their town.

Montevallo is joining Columbiana, Heflin and Wetumpka in working with Main Street Alabama.

Columbiana Mayor Stancil Handley said Main Street will be a major help to promote his historic downtown.
